Ideas For St Valentines Day Party Games For Kids

Are you thinking of holding a kids’ party on St Valentine’s Day? Then you would be wise to start thinking of St Valentine’s Day party games for kids as well. Kids are more distress when they are bored than whilst they are boisterous. Thinking up games is not much of a problem but there are usually two things to take into account: the age of the children and your finances.

The bouncy house always goes down well with children. You could hire a bouncy house for the day and hang hearts and flowers around the outside. Check on the Net first that the firm renting out the bouncy house is a member of your country’s governing body for bouncy house rental businesses.

You could split the children into teams and hold an assortment of races. One race could be the ‘Race of Hearts’, in which the kids have to run to the finishing line and back with a stuffed heart (or pillow) between their knees. It always results in lots of laughter.

Another race could be to ‘Wrap Mummy’ in which every team gets a few rolls of paper kitchen towel and they have to wrap up someone like a mummy as a present. You could add bows and a name and address tag as well.

The teams could play ‘Mr and Mrs’ in which the compare gives a well-known name and the teams have to click a clicker, bang a gong or ring a bell if they know the answer. The compare may say: ‘Samson’ the answer is ‘Delilah’; ‘Hilary Clinton’ – ‘Bill Clinton’; ‘Queen Elizabeth’ – ‘Prince Phillip’. You get the thought.

Split along gender lines, you could play the ‘King and the Queen of Hearts’. Do you remember those round sweets with a heart on them and a romantic saying in the heart? Well, they do not cost a lot for a colossal bag of them. Give each child 50 or so and question them to stack them one on top of the other.

Whoever builds the highest tower in a minute goes through to the next round. Two boys against each other and two girls until there is just one girl and one boy left. They can eat the sweets, obviously.

You could lay a target on the ground, say one of your heart-shaped cushions, give each child an uninflated sausage-shaped balloon and write his or her name on it. Then the kids stand in a circle around the heart, say ten feet away, blow up their balloon and let them glide (without a knot in). The first one to land on the heart denotes the winner. Or the nearest to it. You could have one go each per round or they could fire at will until someone wins.

You could play Valentine’s Day bingo. This can get as elaborate as you have time for. You could make your own cards with hearts etc on them; if the children are young, you could call out pictures instead of numbers, but the most amusing of all is if the caller makes up some Valentine’s Day slang to go with every number.

For instance, when calling bingo numbers in Britain, it is common to say: ‘Legs 11′ and a lot of people will whistle; ‘two small ducks, 22′ and somebody always says ‘quack, quack’. Every number has its own saying and they are used with minor variations everywhere. You could make up your own like: ‘two hairy legs, number 11′ or ‘two gorgeous legs, number 11′.

If you cannot reckon of something appropriate for each number, only do as many as you can – they always get a laugh and that is what it is all about when you are organizing a St Valentine’s Day party for kids.

A Short History Of Judaism

December 27, 2010 by

It has been worked out that around 80% of the world’s population believe in one religion or another (and there are lots of them), but about 70% of those are members to the huge four. The four largest religions are: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. Judaism is the precursor of both Islam and Christianity.

The Hebrew Bible recounts the history of the world and the tale of the journey of the people from creation, all through the flood to the arrival in the Promised Land, or from Mesopotamia to Canaan, led by Abraham.

The offspring of Abraham and his people were enslaved by the Egyptians and did not manage to escape until Moses led them out of captivity. During this journey, Moses was given the Ten Commandments from God and they went on to be the bedrock of Jewish law and custom although there is no doubt that the Jewish mode of life has evolved from this period in the Tenth Century before Christ.

The sacred writings of the Hebrew Bible or Masorah are divided into twenty-four books. But, the same writings are divided up into thirty-nine books in the Chirtian Bible’s Ancient Testament. The Torah or The Law was being composed at this time but it was altered and updated between the Tenth and Fifth Centuries before Christ.

In addition to the Hebrew scriptures, there is a rich tradition of ancient oral commentary known as the Talmud, which is a huge compilation of the Oral Law. The Talmud is the accepted authority for Orthodox Jews.

Judaism is the oldest monotheistic religion known to the West. Jews believed in one God whilst all of the known world believed in pantheism or many gods like the Ancient Greeks. The name of God in the Jewish language is Yahweh and they believe that Yahweh made a covenant with His people to take care of them for ever as long as they remained devoted solely to him.

In the Jewish faith, sin is the unashamed disrespect of God’s will and that is punishable by God in a similar fashion to the Buddhist belief in karma.. The objective of following God’s Law is being welcomed into His Kingdom.

Jews worship in synagogues in congregations led by Rabbis who are considered Teachers or Masters (as in the ancient style of calling teachers, ‘masters’) rather than as monks or vicars. The Jewish Sabbath is not the Sunday as in Christianity, but is observed from sunset Friday until sunset Saturday night.

The most significant holidays or holy days in the Jewish calendar are: Rosh Hashanah (New Year); Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement); Hanukah (Festival of Lights) and Pesach (Passover). The Jewish nation does not celebrate Christmas because they believe that the Son of God is still yet to be born. They see Jesus as a prophet in the same manner as the Muslims do.

There are three predominant branches of modern Judaism which are: Orthodox Judaism; Reform Judaism and Conservative Judaism. Some of these branches of Judaism are more prevalent in some countries than others.

A Brief History Of Islam

December 27, 2010 by

The doctrines of Islam were passed down to humankind through Mohammed who is widely thought of as the last, so far, in the line of Middle Eastern prophets. The first was Abraham of Judaism renown, then there was Jesus for Christianity and then came Mohammed. Mohammed was born in around 570 AD in Mecca, western Saudi Arabia and died 62 years later in 632 in Medina.

The Koran, or the ‘Recitation’ in English, consists of 144 chapters and was revealed to Mohammed by God. These doctrines were written down by his secretaries during the course of 23 years.

Like its predecessor religions, Islam is a monotheistic religion and its narrative includes tales or references to Abraham, Moses (and the Ten Commandments) and Jesus, but does not accept Christianity’s declaration of his divinity.

Another major difference from the Middle Eastern religions before it, is that Jews trace their lineage through Abraham’s son Isaac, whereas Muslims trace their history through Abraham’s son Ishmael by another wife.

The root of the word Islam – ‘s-l-m’ – means ‘peace’ and ‘submission’ (to God). A Muslim’s association with God is determined by the ‘Five Pillars of Islam’. These five pillars are: Shahadah (profession of faith); public and collective prayer five times every day; charity to the poor; fasting during the holy month of Ramadan and a pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest of places to Muslims, at least once in their lifetime.

Islam has stringent dietary laws, notably with regard to eating pork, and prohibitions against promiscuity, stealing, gambling and lying. Muslims worship in Mosques and the services are led by Imams. The most critical time to pray is at midday on a Friday, which is the Muslim Sabbath.

The vast majority of Muslims are Sunnites, who are the traditionalists, and the rest are Shi’ites or ‘partisans’. This could roughly be compared with the relationship between Judaism and Christianity. The variances between the two sects in the both religions have caused untold misery over the centuries and there is no sign of it stopping any time soon.

There is significantly more known of Mohammed than about Jesus. Mohammed was brought up by his uncle and at the age of 25 he was a trader. At the age of 40, in 610, an angel instructed him to proclaim the word of God. He was not welcomed in Mecca but the authorities invited him to quell the city of Medina in 622, which he accomplished.

His condition for accepting this task was that the people accept the word of God. This they did – this go is called the Hegim and it is the date from which Muslims record contemporary history – like the Western world uses the birth of Jesus.

By 632 Mohammed was dead, but by then the vast majority of Arabs were Muslims. For one reason or another, Islam spread east and west from Saudi Arabia taken usually by Arab traders nearly certainly. Islam never really got a foothold in Europe (except Spain) but it did go East honestly extensively.

Collecting Antique Dolls

December 25, 2010 by

Collecting antique dolls is a leisure activity that a lot of women grow into or want to if they had the time or and the money. A collection of antique dolls in a gorgeous show case is a very attractive asset, but collecting antique dolls is not as simple as it may sound.

Well, to delineate that properly, it depends what you would like the antique dolls for. As with any leisure activity that has the potential to make the collector money, it is not simple to get it right, but if you just want to delight in your collection you will have an simpler time of it.

Millions of women collect ancient dolls, but it is unlikely that many of them really make any money out of their leisure activity, because you have to study and the professional competition is fierce. It is the same as collecting coins or stamps: you can have a gorgeous collection of gorgeous commemorative stamps or coins that is worthless in monetary terms, because there were too many of that sort or that year manufactured, whereas you could have a collection of a dozen drab stamps worth a million.

Therefore, if you want to start a collection of antique dolls, the first thing to do is visit the library and borrow some books on the subject. If there are no illustrations, you can probably find some photos on the Net in order to afford identification simpler.

One of the first things you require to acquaint yourself with is the names of the most well-known manufacturers of dolls in the 150 years of the Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries. Learn the names of the firms, the names of the dolls and an average cost.

If you come across what you reckon is a excellent deal at a car boot or yard sale, do not get place off by a tatty appearance. lots of dolls lead a tough life, but they can be repaired pretty easily and there are many dolls’ hospitals if you need expert help, advice or specialist parts like eyes or buttons. The original clothing can be repaired or replaced and the doll would still be valuable if it is rare, well loved or sought after.

You know, some things are not particularly rare but are still costly because they capture the imagination of a fantastic deal of people. Baby Boomer toys from the Fifties and Early Sixties will nearly certainly buy this status when the Boomers retire and maybe start a collection.

Look out for antiques fairs to help you buy more first hand knowledge. There are often specialized antiques fairs in largish towns and one sort of honest is antique toys, in which the section on antique dolls is certain to feature quite prominently. It is very functional to be able to see the dolls ‘in the flesh’ so to speak in order to know what you should be looking out for while browsing.

Books, photos and the Net are useful resources, but there is no replacement for hands-on experience and talking with collectors and dealers who are passionate about collecting antique dolls.

Young Girls And Their Dolls’ Prams

December 23, 2010 by

Do you have a small girl in your life? Say a young daughter or a young niece? If she is between about five and ten years of age? If you are wondering what you can get a small girl of this age as a present, then perhaps I can help you out with a few tips

Does she like playing with dolls? Then I am willing to bet that she would like a doll’s pram. Young girls like to copy their mums and the mothers that they see on the street. They like to walk with their friends, pushing their dolls in their prams around the garden.

Some people say that this is a terrible thing to encourage, but despite trying to discourage parents from purchasing stereotypical toys for boys and, especially, girls for thirty or forty years, young girls still like to play with dolls and doll’s prams, Wendy Houses and toy tea sets..

Those young girls from the Seventies and Eighties are now in their thirties and forties, lots of them are feminists too, so the experience of playing with dolls and dolls’ prams and other customary girls’ toys does not appear to have done them any harm.

In fact, I reckon that it is much healthier for girls to play with dolls than it is for boys to play at being soldiers or cowboys wielding toy guns, although even that probably does not do any harm. Boys have probably been playing with toy guns, toy bows and arrows or even toy spears for thousands of years.

And I venture to say that young girls have been playing with dolls and giving them tea parties for equally as long as well. While I was in infants’ school fifty years ago, our class had a Wendy House and girls and boys played in there together, although it was more for the girls – I do remember thinking that.

Traditional girls’ presents like dolls, dolls’ prams, Wendy Houses and toy tea sets type of went out of fashion in the West in the last twenty-five years of the Twentieth Century, but they are back again now. These traditional girls’ toys can be seen in all the toys catalogues and toy stores such as Toys R Us.

They seem to be a fantastic deal cheaper now than they used to be too, unless you want a dolls’ pram from one of the traditional pram manufacturers like Silver Cross. Silver Cross dolls’ prams are perfectly made showing all the attention to detail and quality that they place into their full-size prams, which were ‘By Appointment to His and Her Royal Highnesses’ the kings and queens of the United Kingdom from about the mid 1930′s to the mid-1980′s. Who knows, maybe they will be appointed again when the next royal baby arrives..

At the moment Silver Cross, which has outlets all over the world and on the Internet, is also giving away a classic rag doll with every buy of one of their prams.

Coupon Codes And How To Use Them

December 20, 2010 by

Toys R Us is one of the largest retailers of toys in the world. It is also one of the most imitated names in the world. There businesses all over the place with names like ‘Carpets R Us’, ‘Taxis R Us’ et cetera, et cetera. Toys R Us also has quite an extraordinary Internet presence.

This equals that millions of people are looking for Toys R Us coupon codes, particularly at Christmas. Money-off coupons for Toys R Us can save lots of money on modern toys too as traditional toys such as dolls’ prams, dolls’ houses, rocking horses, board games and dolls.

Coupon codes are a set of numbers and letters, which when entered at the checkout will reduce the price of the item that you are buying or entitle you to a bonus with that item. They can be entered at physical and Web checkout points of sale.in precisely the same way. There are a number of benefits associated with coupon codes, some of which we will discuss later in this article.

The first and most obvious advantage of using coupons is the discounts that they offer. A Toys R Us coupon could give a fixed discount, perhaps $5, a percentage discount as in 5%, or a bonus, as in a free outfit with every Barbie doll or three outfits for the price of two.

If you are shopping on the Net, the added value may be in the form of free delivery, although that may be only within a fixed geographical zone such as mainland United States.

Convenience can be a huge consideration. If you do not know what toy to buy for a child and you have a fixed amount to spend and you have a discount coupon for a fitting toy, then that can make your mind up for you.

For instance, if you were going to buy a board game, and there is a 10% discount on Monopoly, why not buy Monopoly? It saves having to reckon about whether to buy Risk, Monopoly or Cleudo, does it not?

On line shoppers often get honestly limited issue coupon codes as a loyalty bonus or to encourage them to come back and buy something again. These personalized coupon codes are often honestly generous, but might be quite specific.

For example. if you bought a Barbie on line a few months ago, Toys R Us may send you a coupon code for Barbie clothing three or four weeks before Christmas. This type of coupon is usually sent out by email.

All in all, Toys R Us coupon codes, similar to any other coupons, are useful, if you want the device they are discounting or can find a use for it. They are especially helpful at Christmas, when people have to buy a number of presents.

But, you should not let coupons from any company persuade you to buy and do not hold your breath waiting for a coupon off any item that is in huge demand, money-off coupons are normally reserved for items that are not going too well or are last year’s hot seller.

Wintertime Home Decorating

December 20, 2010 by

Most people start the home decorating process for winter with a bang only to end with a whimper. Far too few people realize that Christmas is only the beginning of the winter season and that while Christmas decorations are a nice addition, they are also a temporary decorative addition in most homes lasting small more than a month if that long. This leaves two more months of winter with a sparsely decorated home in many cases.

There are many things that are associated with winter but far too many of these things have been swept under the category of Christmas decor and their values as simple hallmarks of winter have been forgotten or relegated to the mere distinction of yet another Christmas decoration. Winter months for some are long and cold. Anything that brings a feeling of warmth and cheer into the home is for the most part an brilliant thought as a winter home decoration.

Believe it or not, hibernating animals for many brings about a feeling of winter. Try using black bears as a home decorating theme to make your home feel a small more cozy and better prepared for the cold nights of wintertime. Flannel is a fantastic companion to these delightful black bears and can be used in throws, bedding, and curtains in order to complete the look with style and finesse. In fact, you might want to throw in a few flannel pillows so that you can attempt to hibernate right alongside the cuddly black bears. These are quite well loved home decorations as of late so you should have no problem finding a bear or two unless you happen to be in my neighborhood because I’ve probably snapped them all up already.

Fireplaces. There isn’t enough that can be said about the ability of a nice roaring fire to add warmth and a wintertime glow to nearly any room. It really isn’t winter for most people unless there is a nice fire burning in the grate. The warmth is so much more than merely physical it is also soul soothing and comforting to watch a fire burning brightly before your eyes while warming your cold hands and feet. These nifty devices can also add a touch of romance to your winter nights so be sure to keep cozy blankets and candles close by as well.

Speaking of candles. Much like a fireplace candles add a warm cheerfulness to the rooms they touch. There are certain fragrances that are perfect for wintertime candle burning but even less appropriate fragrances are often welcome during winter months as they provide the soft glow that makes the world seem so much smaller and friendlier in the process. Keep this in mind as you are shopping for your winter home decorating thoughts as well as the fact that fragrances matter when making an atmosphere so choose the fragrances appropriately to the season.

Use pillows and blankets in your winter decorating to add layers of warmth and comfort as well as visual appeal. It is incredible the things that the mind can do in the winter but one of the more incredible things it does is convince you that you are warm when you are surrounded by warmth. With blankets and pillows lining your sofas and chairs but, if your mind doesn’t convince you there is always the option of just bundling up and letting your body convince your mind. There is also something soothing about the comfort and close softness of the pillows and blankets whether one is in perfect health or really feeling the chill of winter down to their bones.

Don’t let the celebration of winter end when the Christmas tree comes down. Find ways to incorporate warmth into your home decorating style that only winter can accommodate. Embrace the season with affection and laughter and all that enter your home will be warmed by the charming atmosphere inside.

Why You Should Start Planning Your Party Early

December 20, 2010 by

There are quite a few opportunities to give a party during the year what with birthdays, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, New Year, Independence Day et cetera, et cetera, but every party has one thing in common, they all have to be plotted and the sooner that that plotting is started the better.

There are excellent reasons for starting your plotting early. Things can go incorrect and individuals can let you down, but if you start plotting early, you can switch to ‘plot B’ easily. You may also have thoughts while you are performing your plotting and then you will have time to implement them.

Depending on what form of party you are plotting, you may have to start plotting about a month ahead, but you may have to start even earlier, if you need outside catering or specialized items such as a bouncy house. You might have to book these objects months in advance in order to get precisely what food you want or the theme of the bouncy house that you want.

Depending on where you are holding the party and how many are coming, you might also need to request permission or even a license and you may even need portable toilets too. How about security and sign posts? For instance, it is quite normal for organizers of wedding parties in rural Thailand to use security, who will also supply road signs and will direct traffic.

Another excellent reason for plotting early is that you can buy items that you require weekly and so spread the cost. You could buy the paper plates, plastic knives, forks and spoons, plastic beakers, straws and paper table cloths in the first week, the other items you need, such as the drinks, crisps and biscuits, in the following weeks, until all you have to buy in the week of the party is the perishable food such as sausage rolls, pies, pasties, sandwiches and cakes.

You may also need specialized decorations, particularly for themed birthday parties, Halloween and Christmas. Finding the right decorations for these kinds of parties can take a long time, which is another reason for beginning your plotting earlier rather than later.

Another excellent reason for getting started early is that you can get the invitations out early, which gives your guests the opportunity to place you in their diaries. It also gives them plenty of time to accept or refuse the invitation so that you can either invite more friends to make the numbers up or you can say the caterers that you will require less food.

It is a sad fact that in spite of all your plotting, some facets will go incorrect, they always do and you will forget some items as well, people always do and the best precautions against these latent calamities are firstly to start plotting early and secondly to get a few people involved in the plotting, because as they say, two heads are better than one.

Hiking And Camping Is Undergoing A Revival

December 20, 2010 by

Are you interested in coming closer to nature? Do you like hiking and sleeping under the stars – or under canvas at least? If you do, then a walking or hiking and camping holiday may be just the thing for you. A hiking and camping holiday will get you out in the fresh air, allow you to observe nature first hand and cost you very small to boot. In small, hiking and camping are the ideal combination, if you are looking for a healthy, inexpensive break outdoors.

Not only that but you can either go alone with a couple of excellent books, take a lover, take a friend or take the family with you. All in all, you have many alternatives available to you if you want to trek off into the wild blue yonder on foot.

There are a couple of ways of approaching a vacation of this kind. You can either book into a hiking and camping site or you can literally only head off. If you have children with you then the camping ground is a necessity, but otherwise the choice is yours, although it has to be kept in mind, that camping off site is or can be illegal. Trespass is absolutely illegal as is causing a nuisance of yourself, putting wild animals under stress for no excellent reason, damaging trees or property and littering.

So, if you are a novice to hiking and camping, you would probably be better off going to a hiking and camping site or park. Do not be place off by this thought, some of them are truly immense. Check out the Poconos and other national parks for example.

There is no doubt that price is a factor in the selection of a camping holiday for many young people, but it is rarely the sole reason why people like to get away and sleep under the stars. Getting back to nature and bird- and animal-watching are other everyday reasons.

If you fancy this sort of vacation, it is worth bearing in mind that hiking and camping have become extremely well loved pastimes of late. They always were well loved, it is right, but they waned in the Eighties and Nineties, and are seeing a renaissance now. Therefore, do your homework, see where you want to go, get some brochures or look on line and book up early. Yes, these days you have to book up early to get into the best hiking and camping parks again.

A final note of warning, if you choose to go off into the wilderness outside a park, let people know where you are. Take your mobile phone and a few fully-charged extra batteries and say when you are going to phone in that you are safe and make sure that you abide by it. It is very expensive if Air-Sea Rescue are called out on a wild goose chase.

Electronic Bug Zapper

December 12, 2010 by

If you aren’t already familiar with the electronic insect zapper, you are really going to like it and if you have used one before, I’m sure you’ll welcome it back like an ancient friend! The hand held bug killer does just what it says it does: it zaps bugs. But it does it really, very well.

Any bug that comes into contact with the hand held insect zapper is fried. Smaller bugs like gnats and mosquitoes are disintegrated with a very pleasing flash and a crack. Larger bug, like house flies and wasps die, but don’t explode like the smaller ones.

How many times have these flying insects taken the edge off an otherwise lovely evening in the garden? Or how many times have you not been able to get a decent night’s sleep, because you know there’s at least one mosquito in the bedroom. It has happened to me hundreds of times, I know! It is very satisfying to get one’s own back with the hand held insect killer.

I don’t like killing anything unnecessarily – I’m married to a Buddhist- but mosquitoes? I’m sorry, they have to go. And the handheld insect zapper dispatches them without any more ado. No waiting and hoping they’ll glide into the ultraviolet light and then into the mesh. No, one sweep of the electric bug zapper and the mosie’s gone and you can hear whether you got her or not. (I say her, because the sucking mosquitoes always are females – honest, I wasn’t being sexist).

Basically, there are two types of electric bug killer. There is the battery operated bug zapper and the rechargeable electric bug zapper. Both operate on the same principle, but I prefer the rechargeable type, although I guess you could use rechargeable batteries too. But, I reckon that they would be more expensive that the bug zapper in the first place. Anyway, I have had a electric bug zapper of the rechargeable sort for five years and I am ecstatic about them.

These days, I spend a lot of time in northern Thailand with my wife, so you can bet your bottom dollar that my electronic bug killer gets a excellent work-out practically every evening. We usually eat in the garden in the evening and all socializing is done outside by tradition, especially in the rural areas, where we live, so it comes in real handy. I also use my electric bug killer to ‘sweep’ the bedroom for bugs before we go to sleep at night, just like a secret agent.

The electronic insect killer seems to get better every time I buy one, which makes it hard to give you certain specifications. The hand held bug zappers I bought four or five years ago, often failed after six to nine months of buy, although their ability to hold a charge was less after four or five months.

But, the new electric bug zapper will last 9-12 months and still be very pokey after nine months. My latest model even has a powerful torch called a headlamp built into it. I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be for, but if you feel that revenge is sweet, you can lure mosquitoes with it and then kill them with your electronic insect zapper.

Have you ever heard of a handheld bug zapper? If you haven’t, or if you want to get a handheld bug zapper, please click one of the links to our website or blog.
